I've always thought the idea of "daylight savings" was weird. In March, the time goes forward and in November the time goes backward, leaving it to be dark around 4-5:00 pm.
Sunlight is a vital part of our health. Some benefits of sunlight include...
☀️ Support better sleep
☀️ Uplift your mood
☀️ Increase energy
☀️ Vitamin D
☀️ Natural healing modalities
☀️ Heal inflammation
Being that the sun will set extremely early coming soon, a lot of people will struggle with feelings of Seasonal Depression.. sadness, and gloom without having ample sun, it is cold so they just want to stay at home which can lead to feelings of sadness, low energy, isolation, and loneliness.
THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE. I'M NOT TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO. But here are some ways we all can stay mentally healthy and upbeat during these upcoming cold winter months...
❄️ Still go outside for sun. I know it's going to be freezing, but it is still important to get your sun. Even if it is for 10-20 minutes, bundle up with your coat and scarf and get some sun that IS there before the sun sets early.
❄️You may have to supplement and get Vitamin D in other ways since the sun will be lacking.
❄️ Stay physical. When I first started experiencing depression, I was always told to exercise. I always just rolled my eyes because I was thinking, "I'm sad as hell, I don't feel like exercising". Well, that's exactly a reason TO DO IT! When I finally started going to the gym and now pole dancing regularly, I started to feel better because 1) exercising releases endorphins, which is a hormone called the body's "natural painkillers". Every time I work out I feel energized, which lifts my mood. and 2) You are focusing your energy on something else for a certain period of time.
❄️ Increase your light exposure. Whether it is making sure you get as much sun as is available or purchasing a light box.
