Shanquella Robinson was a 25-year-old independent hair braider from North Carolina. She amassed 25,000 followers on her business Instagram page specializing in children's braid styles. She was pronounced deceased within 24 hours of leaving the US with a group of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. What really happened to Shanquella Robinson?

The Beginning

On October 28th, a group of friends traveled to Cabo, Mexico. This group consisted of Khalil Cooke, Malik Dyer, Wenter Donovan, Alysse Hyatt, Daejhanae Jackson, Shanquella Robinson, and Nazeer Wiggins.

Warm weather, beautiful scenery.. it was supposed to be a fun vacation to celebrate one of their friend's birthday. Robinson's mother, Salamondra told BET NEWS that she last spoke to her daughter right after she touched down in Cabo and she was having a meal with the group. Even though they agreed to speak the following day, things went left...

A video surfaced on social media of a fight between Shanquella and one of her friends on the trip. This friend is allegedly Daejhanae Jackson.

In the video, it is clear that Shanquella was not the aggressor and did not want to fight. You also hear the guy recording trying to tell Shanquella to "at least fight back". She is also naked during the fight.

Breaking The News

The following day, Salamondra received a phone call from one of Shanquella's friends stating that she was not feeling well. Later, she received another phone call stating that Shanquella passed away from alcohol poisoning, which was not even true. Each of the friends told a different story.

In the last recent days, more information has come to light. Autopsy reports reveal that Shanquella's passing had nothing to do with alcohol poisoning. She had a broken neck and a cracked spine. She was reportedly found unconscious. Photos conclude that she had a knot on her head, her eyes were swollen, and her lips were split.

The entire group fled Mexico after.

My Thoughts

The fact that a 25-year-old went on vacation with people she thought were her friends and ends up not being alive within 24 hours of leaving the country with those same people is extremely alarming and unsettling. The video of the fight makes it even worse. Robinson's mother says she had a "heart of gold, everyone loved her". No one expects to go on vacation, only to lose their life.

Envy and jealousy can be deadly. I always got confused between the two though. In this situation, it's clearly ENVY. Jealously means to feel threatened or protective of something, or maybe even just in a friendly way where you feel motivated and inspired by seeing someone else's success. You feel like since they worked hard to get it, you can have it too. On the other hand, envy is the longing to have what someone else has. Or even wanting to BE someone else, to have THEIR life instead of your own. Living in the digital age, we have more access to each other than ever before. When people get truly upset about others' success, it can turn into something scary. The video of the fight shows that Shanquella was definitely a target of envy and betrayal. It is sad that a man recorded two women fighting and didn't try to do anything to stop it! I believe that since Shanquella was her own boss, beautiful, and had a lot going for herself, that made her the target of something much more nefarious. She passed 24 hours after arriving in Mexico.

A real friend would never sit back and let their friend get hurt and does nothing to stop it. A real friend would never beat their friend in such a way. A real friend would never leave Mexico with no remorse for what just happened to someone they called a friend.

None of them was Shanquella's friend.

This story was very devastating to hear.

The quality of the company you keep is everything. It is better to have a small circle of like-minded people who truly appreciate you for who you are, challenge you to be better, and have your best interest at heart than have a large group of friends who are not genuine, opportunistic, and in some cases like this, will plot your demise.

Whenever you have a gut feeling about something or someone, it is really getting clearer and clearer that we should listen to it.. because our lives can depend on it.
